Cordillera - Fishing

Welcome Students!

This section will focus on how industries and citizens have taken action to conserve Cordillera's fishery industry. 

While reading the following section ask yourself "What are some things that the fishery industry has done to help manage fish populations? Are these actions enough to preserve fish populations for future use? What are some of the ways you and your family can live in a more sustainable way?"

In the Cordillera region a natural resource is fish because of its physical location next to the Pacific Ocean on the Western shoreline. Fishing provides many jobs for individuals living in the Cordilleran region as 17% are part of the fishing industry. 

Some of the actions taken to preserve fish populations:

• Fishing is confined to certain places and times
• You may only catch a certain number of fish a day
• You need a license to fish
• hydroelectric developments and have been delayed indefinitely to protect salmon runs
